Ō MĀTAU TIKANGA OUR PUrpose

OUR OBJECT

The objects of Te Wakahuia o Hine are to ensure a Tiriti o Waitangi focus on the areas of midwifery and maternity strategies, investments, policies, education and research; and thus, activities that advance holistic health and wellbeing of Tangata Whenua and thereby benefit the community by:
  • Championing an equal Tangata Whenua voice in the design and implementation of focus areas.
  • Monitoring the direction of focus areas to achieve equal and equitable outcomes for Tangata Whenua.
  • Advocating for health system excellence in focus areas that prioritise Tangata Whenua and Whānau Ora.
  • Conducting research that transforms focus areas to be Tiriti-led.
The objects of Te Wakahuia o Hine are intended for the relief of poverty, the advancement of education, the advance of religion e ai ki ngā tangata katoa, or other purposes beneficial to the community that fall within the definition of ‘charitable purposes’ as defined in the Charities Act 2005.

our VALUES

Te Wakahuia o Hine will observe, conduct, and model the following tikanga toward their members and others, for example government, community and professional organisations, at all times. The tikanga of Te Wakahuia o Hine are:
Tūranga Tiketike
Te Wakahuia o Hine will take stances and make decisions and judgements based on facts, timeliness, reasonableness and robust research, that are consistent with the intent of Te Tiriti.
Whare Kōhanga
Te Wakahuia o Hine will promote our worldview as Tangata Whenua. We will pursue the values and wisdom of our tīpuna and promote innovation and solutions that are based on Tangata Whenua philosophies, mātauranga and mōhiotanga.
Oha Whenua
Members of Te Wakahuia o Hine will be kind, practise manaakitanga (mana aki) and reciprocity.
Houhou i te rongo
Te Tiriti o Waitangi will guide our humility toward others by ensuring that we see ourselves as equals to other citizens. We will respect all people and their views, but we may from time to time disagree. We will pursue and maintain relationships that enable equality and equity.
